Η Nvidia αποσύρει προβληματικούς drivers

Η Nvidia αποσύρει τους τελευταίους drivers της WHQL 196.75 μετά από παράπονα αρκετών beta tester του StarCraft II, πως προκαλούν μεγάλα προβλήματα, έως και ολοκληρωτική καταστροφή, της κάρτας γραφικών ή και του PC. Η αρχική υπόθεση ήταν πως υπαίτιος του προβλήματος ήταν η έκδοση beta του StarCraft II, όμως σύντομα απαντήθηκε από την Blizzard Tech Support, πως το πρόβλημα εντοπίζεται στους νεότερους drivers της Nvidia, προτρέποντας τους χρήστες στην απεγκατάστασή τους και αντικατάσταση με τους αμέσως παλαιότερους 196.21, οι οποίοι δεν παρουσιάζουν το ίδιο πρόβλημα.

Το κομμάτι που ενοχοποιείται για τον θερμικό θάνατο των καρτών γραφικών, είναι αυτό του ελέγχου της ταχύτητας των ανεμιστήρων ψύξης. Αυτό σημαίνει πως το πρόβλημα μπορεί να εμφανιστεί με οποιαδήποτε εφαρμογή τρέχει 3D, προκαλώντας υπερθέρμανση ή και καταστροφή της κάρτας γραφικών του motherboard και πιθανώς και του επεξεργαστή. Σε απαιτητικότερες εφαρμογές και παιχνίδια όμως που φέρνουν την GPU στα όριά της, τα προβλήματα είναι αμεσότερα. Η ίδια η Nvidia παραδέχεται πως αρκετοί χρήστες παραπονέθηκαν για τις ταχύτητες των ανεμιστήρων με τους τελευταίους drivers και πλέον δεν είναι διαθέσιμοι για download, μέχρι να εντοπιστεί το ακριβές πρόβλημα και να διορθωθεί.
