Βολές κατά της Google από τον Καναδά για τα προσωπικά δεδομένα

Με ανοιχτή επιστολή προς τον επικεφαλής της Google, Ερικ Σμιντ, η επίτροπος επί θεμάτων ιδιωτικότητας, Τζένιφερ Στόνταρτ, επικρίνει την εταιρεία και εκφράζει την έντονη ανησυχία των καναδικών αρχών για τον βαθμό προστασίας των προσωπικών δεδομένων στο πλαίσιο των εφαρμογών Google Buzz και Google Street View.

Η αρμόδια Καναδή επίτροπος καλεί την Google να υιοθετήσει έναν βασικό άξονα θεμελιωδών αρχών ιδιωτικότητας κάθε φορά που προχωρεί στην εκπόνηση καινούριων υπηρεσιών και εφαρμογών του. "Η ιδιωτικότητα των πολιτών του κόσμου ξεχνιέται την ώρα που η Google προωθεί νέα τεχνολογικά επιτεύγματα", επισημαίνει χαρακτηριστικά η Καναδή αξιωματούχος. Την επίμαχη επιστολή προσυπογράφουν ομόλογοι της κ. Στόνταρτ από τη Βρετανία, τη Γαλλία, τη Γερμανία, την Ιρλανδία, το Ισραήλ, την Ιταλία, την Ολλανδία, τη Νέα Ζηλανδία και την Ισπανία.

Παρά τις έντονες πιέσεις για μια συγκεκριμένη απάντηση, ο αμερικανικός διαδικτυακός κολοσσός αρκέστηκε σε μια λιτή δήλωση που τονίζει ότι "η Google προσπαθεί πολύ σκληρά να είναι προσεκτική με τα στοιχεία που συλλέγει και τη χρήση τους καθώς επίσης και να διεξαγάγει ουσιαστικούς ελέγχους στα προϊόντα της. Φυσικά δεν κάνουμε τα πάντα 100% σωστά", προσθέτει η εταιρεία".
