Διχάζει εκστρατεία κατά της πειρατείας στο διαδίκτυο

Η απόφαση εταιρίας που δραστηριοποιείται κατά της πειρατείας στο διαδίκτυο να συνεργαστεί με μεγάλη δικηγορική εταιρία του Λονδίνου για την αποστολή χιλιάδων προειδοποιητικών επιστολών σε χρήστες του διαδικτύου που δε σέβονται τη νομοθεσία περί προστασίας πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας έχει διχάσει τη βρετανική κοινή γνώμη.

Έντονες είναι οι επικρίσεις που δέχεται η εταιρία DigiProtect, με έδρα τη Γερμανία, από πολίτες που παρέλαβαν αντίστοιχες επιστολές, στις οποίες καλούνταν να καταβάλουν πρόστιμο με απειλή νομικής δράσης εναντίον τους.

Τόσο η εν λόγω εταιρία, όσο και το δικηγορικό γραφείο που υποστηρίζει νομικά την εκστρατεία απορρίπτουν τις κατηγορίες περί εκβιαστικής πρακτικής και παραβίασης των δικαιωμάτων των χρηστών, τονίζοντας πως έχουν υιοθετήσει τη μόνη ενδεδειγμένη και αποδεδειγμένα αποδοτική μέθοδο πάταξης της πειρατείας στο διαδίκτυο. Επιπλέον, διατείνονται ότι δρουν με γνώμονα το συμφέρον των πελατών τους, τους οποίους, πάντως, δεν κατονομάζουν.

Την ίδια ώρα, ο επίσημος οργανισμός για την προστασία της πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας στη Βρετανία έχει πάρει αποστάσεις από την εν λόγω κίνηση, επισημαίνοντας ότι η προσφυγή στη Δικαιοσύνη θα πρέπει να είναι η έσχατη επιλογή για τους κατά συρροή πειρατές και όχι η πρώτη απάντηση στο πρόβλημα. "Πρόκειται για μια πρακτική άδικη και ανήθικη", τονίζει χαρακτηριστικά, σε ανακοίνωσή της η διευθύντρια του μεγαλύτερου περιοδικού με θέματα καταναλωτών στη Βρετανία.
Οι αντιδράσεις που έχουν προκληθεί, οδήγησαν ήδη άλλες εταιρίες που ακολουθούσαν τις ίδιες μεθόδους στη Βρετανία και σε πολύ μικρότερη κλίμακα να αναζητήσουν εναλλακτικούς τρόπους προστασίας των πελατών τους.
