Δείτε DVD στο Ubuntu

Ένα από τα πολλά που κάνουν το Ubuntu τόσο δημοφιλές είναι και το ότι η έκδοση αυτή έρχεται με αρκετές εφαρμογές εγκατεστημένες.
Μπορεί να έχετε τον Media Player και τον Internet Explorer όταν κάνετε εγκατάσταση των Windows αλλά χρειάζεστε ξεχωριστά προγράμματα αν θέλετε να δημιουργήσετε λογιστικά φύλλα, βάσεις δεδομένων ή έγγραφα του Word. Το Ubuntu από την άλλη περιλαμβάνει media player, web browser, office suite και αρκετές άλλες εφαρμογές.

Αλλά αυτό που δεν μπορείς να κάνεις με το Ubuntu είναι να παίξεις commercial DVDs.

Ενώ ο Tomem movie player κάνει μία καλή προσπάθεια για να παίξει video σε κάθε DVD που βάζετε στον υπολογιστή σας, δεν καταφέρνει να δείξει τα menus του DVD και μπορεί να έχει και προβλήματα ενώ παίζει το video. Ευτυχώς όμως είναι αρκετά εύκολο να ενεργοποιήσετε το DVD playback. Απλά ανοίξτε το terminal και γράψτε τις ακόλουθες γραμμές. (δώστε τον root κωδικό σας όταν σας ζητηθεί)

sudo apt-get install totem-xine libxine1-ffmpeg libdvdread3

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh

Αν δεν σας αρέσει να παίζετε με το terminal μπορείτε να ανοίξετε το Synaptic Pckage Manger και εκεί ψάξτε για το VLC. Ο VideoLan media player είναι ικανός να παίξει DVD χωρίς να κάνετε κάτι επιπλέον.
