Απαραίτητο το Service Pack για την εγκατάσταση του Internet Explorer 9 στα Windows 7

Γνωρίζουμε εδώ και καιρό ότι ο επερχόμενος Internet Explorer 9 δε θα λειτουργεί στα Windows XP και θα περιορίζεται στις εκδόσεις Vista και 7. Απ' ό,τι φαίνεται, όμως, ο νέος browser της Microsoft έχει κι άλλες "παραξενιές". Όπως έγινε γνωστό από την ίδια τη Microsoft, η τελική έκδοση του Internet Exlporer 9 θα έχει ως προαπαιτούμενο την εγκατάσταση του Service Pack 1 στα Windows 7.

Βέβαια, το Service Pack 1 δεν έχει κυκλοφορήσει ακόμη και η Microsoft δεν έχει ανακοινώσει την ημερομηνία διάθεσής του. Εν τω μεταξύ, δεν ξέρουμε ακόμη πότε ακριβώς θα κυκλοφορήσει η τελική έκδοση του IE9. Το πιο πιθανό είναι έχουμε ταυτόχρονη ή σχεδόν ταυτόχρονη κυκλοφορία των δύο πακέτων γύρω στον Απρίλιο του 2011.

Η απαίτηση για το Service Pack 1 στα Windows 7 προκαλεί κάποια εύλογα ερωτήματα. Για παράδειγμα, δε γνωρίζουμε γιατί η τελική έκδοση θα θέλει το SP1, τη στιγμή που η beta έκδοση λειτουργεί κανονικά χωρίς Service Pack. Κατ' επέκταση, μέχρι πρότινος ξέραμε ότι το SP1 των 7 θα είναι απλά μια συλλογή από security patches και άλλα fixes που ήδη έχουν διατεθεί. Η εξέλιξη με τον IE9 αφήνει να εννοηθεί ότι ενδέχεται να υπάρχουν κι άλλα updates στο επερχόμενο Service Pack.
Όσο για τους χρήστες των Windows Vista, ο Internet Explorer 9 θα απαιτεί την εγκατάσταση του Service Pack 2.

Copyright enforcement firm ACS:Law hit by embarrassing email leak

It's the weekend and Broadband Genie is enjoying a well-deserved break, but this story was too good to wait until Monday. ACS:Law, the infamous law firm which has been sending out dubious letters threatening to take people to court for file sharing, has had a massive database of its emails leaked onto the web. The ACS:Law web site was taken down by a denial of service (DDoS) attack earlier in the week, an event described by boss Andrew Crossley as "typical rubbish from pirates" . He's likely to have changed his tune now because someone discovered that before the site was restored a backup file containing the emails had been left in an open directory. Inevitably this was downloaded and widely distributed on file sharing networks. The collection includes the incoming and outgoing emails of Andrew Crossley and his employees, complete with attachments, and contains masses of information about how ACS:Law goes about its business and how much money it make
