Χωρητικότητα 128GB σε ένα μικροσκοπικό NAND Flash chip

Η Toshiba ανακοίνωσε ένα νέο NAND Flash chip μνήμης, το οποίο προορίζεται να καλύψει τις ανάγκες κινητών τηλεφώνων και tablets. Η εταιρεία κατάφερε να χωρέσει 128 gigabytes σε ένα chip μικρών διαστάσεων, το οποίο έχει πάχος λίγο παραπάνω από ένα χιλιοστό. Το νέο chip αποτελείται από 16 chips των 8GB, τα οποία κατασκευάζονται με βάση την τεχνολογία των 32nm.

Μέχρι σήμερα είχαμε chips με χωρητικότητα 32GB, τα οποία μοιάζουν μάλλον ξεπερασμένα μπροστά στο νέο chip της Toshiba. Τα 128GB είναι υπέρ-αρκετά για μια μικρή φορητή συσκευή, σε βαθμό που η υποδοχή για κάρτα microSD σε ένα smartphone να θεωρείται πλέον περιττή πολυτέλεια. Παράλληλα, η
Toshiba έχει αναπτύξει κι ένα chip με χωρητικότητα 64GB.

Τα πρώτα δείγματα αναμένονται το Σεπτέμβριο και τα νέα chips αναμένεται να μπουν σε μαζική παραγωγή πριν το τέλος του 2010.
