Η Google για την προστασία των προσωπικών δεδομένων

Απαντώντας σε επιστολή διαμαρτυρίας επιτρόπων για την προστασία προσωπικών δεδομένων από όλο τον κόσμο, ο διαδικτυακός κολοσσός Google υπερασπίστηκε τις πρακτικές που υιοθετεί σχετικά. Οι ανησυχία των οργανώσεων αφορά κυρίως την ελλειπή, όπως τη χαρακτηρίζουν, μέριμνα για την προστασία των προσωπικών δεδομένων των χρηστών του ιστοτόπου κοινωνικής δικτύωσης Buzz αλλά και της υπηρεσίας Street View. Στην απάντησή της, η Google, επισημαίνει ότι παραμένει προσηλωμένη στη διασφάλιση της ιδιωτικότητας κατά τον σχεδιασμό των προϊόντων της, παραδεχόμενη, ωστόσο, ότι έγιναν συγκεκριμένα λάθη κατά την έναρξη λειτουργίας του Buzz.
"Δεν κάνουμε τα πάντα 100% σωστά και γι'αυτό αναλάβαμε τόσο γρήγορα δράση για το θέμα του Google Buzz", αναφέρει η εταιρεία στην απαντητική της ανακοίνωση.

Η Google έχει, στο πρόσφατο παρελθόν, γίνει αποδέκτης παραπόνων χιλιάδων χρηστών των προγραμμάτων της, καθώς διαπιστώθηκε ότι με την έναρξη λειτουργίας του Buzz, έγινε αυτομάτως και εν αγνοία τους σύνδεσή τους στο πρόγραμμα μέσω των λογαριασμών ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου Gmail που διατηρούσαν. Σε μια προσπάθεια να κατευνάσει τις αντιδράσεις, η Google, έδωσε στους χρήστες το δικαίωμα αναπροσαρμογής των ρυθμίσεων ιδιωτικότητάς τους. Στην αρχική επιστολή τους, οι επίτροποι προστασίας προσωπικών δεδομένων ζητούν από την αμερικανική εταιρία να αλλάξει τις πρακτικές που ακολουθεί και συγκεκριμένα: να συλλέγει τα κατά το δυνατόν λιγότερα δεδομένα που απαιτούνται για τη λειτουργία των υπηρεσιών της και να είναι ξεκάθαρη στην ενημέρωση των πελατών της για τη χρήση των δεδομένων αυτών.
