Η Samsung φέρνει το Desktop Linux στα smartphones της με το «Linux on Galaxy»




Η Samsung ανακοίνωσε το έργο «Linux on Galaxy» με το οποίο, σκοπεύει να δώσει στα smartphones της, τη δυνατότητα να τρέχουν διανομές Linux. Με αυτό τον τρόπο, θα μπορεί ο κάτοχος ενός Samsung Galaxy να χρησιμοποιεί το smartphone του ως υπολογιστή με Linux.

Αυτό που δεν κατάφερε να κάνει η Canonical με το Convergence, φαίνεται να το επιχειρεί με το έργο «Linux on Galaxy» η Samsung για την σειρά Galaxy των κινητών της ( Note8, Galaxy S8 and S8+).

Τι είναι το «Linux on Galaxy»

Το «Linux on Galaxy«, σύμφωνα με την ανακοίνωση, θα είναι μια εφαρμογή με την οποία οποιοσδήποτε θα είναι σε θέση να τρέξει πολλαπλά λειτουργικά συστήματα βασισμένα στο Linux όπως Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora κλπ μέσω του συστήματος Samsung DeX,.

Με το «Το Linux on Galaxy» φαίνεται ότι η Samsung στοχεύει κατά κύριο λόγο τους προγραμματιστές ώστε να τους δίνει την δυνατότητα όταν χρειάζονται να χρησιμοποιήσουν μια λειτουργία που δεν είναι διαθέσιμη στο Android, να μπορούν απλά να μεταβούν στην εφαρμογή και να εκτελέσουν οποιοδήποτε πρόγραμμα χρειάζονται σε ένα Linux λειτουργικό σύστημα.

Ο τρόπος λειτουργίας, σύμφωνα πάντα με την ανακοίνωση θα γίνεται με το εξάρτημα Samsung DeX για υπολογιστές. Η συγκεκριμένη συσκευή επιτρέπει τη σύνδεση των Galaxy τηλεφώνων με εξωτερική οθόνη, ποντίκι, πληκτρολόγιο κλπ. άλλα περιφερειακά. Το Samsung Galaxy S8 για παράδειγμα, μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί σε μεγαλύτερη οθόνη όπου μόλις συνδεθεί με το DeX τότε το Android μετατρέπεται σε «desktop».

Όλοι προσπαθούν να επιτύχουν την σύγκλιση του Desktop με το Smartphone με σκοπό να μπορεί κάποιος να χρησιμοποιεί το τηλέφωνό του και ως υπολογιστή γραφείου. Κατά πόσο το εγχείρημα θα πετύχει, μένει να το δούμε. Επίσης δεν ξέρουμε ακόμα αν θα είναι ένα έργο ανοιχτού κώδικα. Αν είναι τότε πολύ πιθανόν να δούμε το «Linux on Galaxy» να γίνεται port και σε άλλες συσκευές, πέραν της σειράς Galaxy.
